The book introduced me to the concept of trans-dimensional ducts, an idea I found breathtaking (and still do.) The problem was that the novel imposed a meaning on the events depicted in the film that in some sense shackled me to Clarke’s narrative, rather than allowing me to experience the “Rorschach test” (as the film has been called) of.   An ambitious book that takes in many wide-ranging ideas, including the nature of the universe and humanity's place in it, transferring consciousness between species, and the nature of species and individual identity. I'm intrigued to read more of Ian Watson's books as I think his imagination would better suit longer works/5(13).

The Book of Skulls (Novel, ) Collision Course (Novel, ) Conquerors from the Darkness (Novel, ) The Dawning Light (Novel, ) Downward to the Earth (Novel, ) Dying Inside (Novel, ) The Face of the Waters (Novel, ) The Gate of Worlds (Novel, ). The big book of adventure stories: the most complete volume of adventure stories ever published / edited and with a introduction by Otto Penzler ; foreword by Doug Preston. Great tales of action and adventure. Bennett, George. Gordon, Mel and Andrae, Thomas (June ).

This list includes only fiction plus book-length nonfiction. Including short non-fiction (introductions, afterwords, reviews, editorials and so on) would make the list much too long to be of any use – over items as of this update, and I know I'm missing a lot. Vornan (Novel) (see The Masks of Time) "Voyage to Procyon" (Short story. Vornan () only appeared as: Variant: Vornan () [as by C. Achilleos] Variant: The Wizard of Anharitte () At the Earth's Core () Pellucidar () Stonehenge () Doctor Who and the Crusaders () also appeared as: Translation: Doctor Who en de Kruisvaarders [Dutch] () Doctor Who and the Daleks () also appeared as.

The Masks of Time (a.k.a. Vornan) is one of my favorite Silverberg novels, one of a string of brilliant works he wrote in the late 60s / earlyon the eve of the millenium, a stranger named Vornan appears mysteriously on Earth, claiming to be a visitor from the future/5(4).

government to be on an escort committee comprised of five other scientists. It seems that a man claiming to be from the future, and named Vornan, has suddenly appeared on Rome's Spanish Steps on Christmas Day Reviews: 8.

At first, I thought this book was going to be a 5-star. Just like Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange World, we are introduced to the same type of intriguing main character, Vornan, fraud or time traveler, and he starts out by doing and saying really interesting things. Garfield and a team of intellectuals (from historians to anthropologists to psychologists) are called on by the US Government to escort Vornan around the good ol' USA--as ambassadors of a sort, but also to keep an eye on him and to try and figure out if he really is.

Vornan appears in Rome on Christmas Day. He claims he’s from the year 2,–a thousand years in the future. The U. Government assembles a team of scientists to study Vornan to determine if he is truly from the future or if he’s just a brilliant con-man pulling off a hoax on the world.

Vornan fell from the sky, naked, and landed on the Spanish steps in Rome on Christmas afternoon toward the end of the Millennium.

And for Leo Garfield things would never be the same. For he is an acknowledged expert in the time reversal properties of sub-atomic particles and Vornan claims to come from far in the future. It details the life of one man assigned to accompany a time traveler (named Vornan [4]) as he explores the world of (his) past (which is roughly our present).

They keep thinking Vornan has some other purpose, but his pure hedonism and unwillingness to discuss anything about the future eventually convinces them that he's just a tourist. Vornan peered into that sphere of emptiness that always seemed to lurk a few feet before his face. I suppose he was meditating on the concepts of salvation and redemption and sin, attempting to stuff some content into the sounds.

At length he said, “This redeemer of mankind was born at Rome?” “Bethlehem.” “A suburb of Rome?”. On December 25th,a time-traveling visitor from arrives in Rome. His name is Vornan, he's naked, and he has come as a tourist to the 20th century.

This upsets the Apocalyptists, who believe the world will end on January 1, ; Vornan is welcomed by world governments who wish to quell the Apocalyptist riots. Vornan is an enigma. Vornan Robert Silverberg: Tandem: £ pb.

It is his through Garfield’s point of view that we experience the escapades of Vornan, for it is with Garfield that Vornan forms the closest bond.
